Steel recycling is vital due to its significant properties among other metals, as Steel is 1000 times stronger than iron and more elastic than rubber. American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that America uses 70 million tons of Steel yearly. Recycling of Steel per ton reduced the use of 1400 pounds of coal, 120 pounds of limestone, and 2500 pounds of iron ore. It also saved space in about 250 cubics of landfills. The Steel recycling industry employs 2 million people.
In the automobile industry, 70% use of Steel in car manufacturing makes it the primary metal due to its elastic and non corroded properties than iron. At the end life of the vehicle, Steel is recycled and used again without losing its properties. Old vehicle recycling reduced the consumption of 85 million barrels of oil per year.
Steel is used in many industries, such as furniture design, and food canes and 75% is used in home appliance production. In the construction sector, steel is used in buildings and bridges. In arts, recycled Steel is used to manufacture many handmade decoration pieces, home & road boards. All these steel uses and properties raise the importance of steel recycling.
