News Update: 11, November 2019, last week Pakistan opens Kartarpur Corridor, Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the historical Kartarpur corridor which is the world’s largest Gurdwara that will be visited by Sikhs from across India and other parts of the world. Kartarpur corridor opened its door on Saturday to facilitate visa-free entry of Indian Sikh pilgrims to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev.
Additionally, Mr. Khan opened the Kartarpur corridor and thousands of Sikhs from around the world, including India, gather to witness the ceremony. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran said while addressing the opening ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor, he said the opening of Kartarpur Corridor is just the beginning. The Prime Minister stated hopefulness that resolution of Kashmir dispute will bring prosperity and result in the uplifting of the entire South Asian region. It will also lead to an improvement in bilateral relations between India and Pakistan.
Moreover, The Prime Minister said when I assumed power, he sent a message to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that we should resolve the bilateral issues to eradicate poverty by opening borders and promoting trade. He, still, regretted that this message was not reciprocated and what is happening in Kashmir today is beyond the issue of territory.
Besides, talking about the positive impression of the project in the country, Prime Minister Imran also said that “This will become an important religious center for the Sikh community and increase the local economy, generate foreign exchange for the country and create jobs in different sectors, including travel and hospitality.
Furthermore, Indian pilgrims will pay Pakistan $ 20 to use the Kartarpur which Pakistan opens Kartarpur Corridor, it includes roads, an 800-meter bridge over the Ravi River and an immigration office. Daily access to up to 5,000 Indians will be allowed, with plans to eventually double capacity.
