The cabinet of ministers in Kyrgyzstan has again taken measures to regulate the export of ferrous metal scrap. This time, they have temporarily banned exporting such scrap to destinations outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) customs territory. The EAEU comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan.
The ban, which will be in effect for six months, addresses concerns related to raw material shortages for local companies. By restricting scrap exports, the Kyrgyz government hopes to ensure a stable supply of raw materials within its borders during this period.
In June this year, the Ministry of Economy and Trade of Kyrgyzstan proposed a draft resolution for public discussion, advocating a temporary ban on ferrous scrap exports. With the ban officially in place, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has been instructed to notify the World Trade Organization and the Eurasian Economic Commission about this regulatory measure.
This decision reflects Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to managing its domestic resources and supporting local industries. The country aims to maintain stability and promote economic growth within its borders by safeguarding raw material availability.
