Turkiye had planned to impose tariffs on imports of flat-rolled steel products from March Earthquakes in February caused a loss of buildings and infrastructure, increasing the demand for rollers. The government has decided to delay the import tariff till April 1, 2023, to fulfill the urgent need for the product.
In January 2023, Turkiye increased the import duty on alloyed & unalloyed hot-rolled coils from 9% to 15 % and 6% to 13%, respectively. Import duty on cold rolled coils had increased from 10 % to 17%, and on thick-sheet flat rolled had increased from 9-15% to 15-20%.
Officials also discussed postponing an increase in duty from three to six months. Rescheduling the tariff may not cause to increase in imports because flat steel is not available worldwide for new deals up to the beginning of April; the best time for new buying is May 2023.
